User Guide
Welcome to China
Tour!
Congratulations! Now you and your partner have finished
your first-year Chinese study and you are ready to use what you have
learned to work out a plan for a China tour. Your task this semester
will be follow the scenarios and justify all decisions you will make
about how long you are going to stay in China, where you are going to
visit, what kind of people you would like to see and a lot more. You
will find it motivating and rewarding by solving the problems presented
in each scenario and extensively using the rich resources given about
Chinese language, Chinese culture, Chinese people ... You will not only
learn and use the language, you will also probe into so much more related
to the language.
You will be given
embedded data and also resources where you can find further information.
You will also have opportunitites to publish and discuss your journal,
which is part of the requirement for this class, to negotiate with local
Chinese travel agencies the US and get advice from China travel issue
experts in China. Your teacher will be around to help but not to instruct
you or dictating information. You are responsible for finding the information
and making all the justifications yourselves.
You will be expected
to:
- Work collaboratively
in groups of two or three to work out plans and itineray together.
- Use target language-Chinese
to conduct all activities following the given situations.
- Browse related
hyperlinked Chinese websites, use tools like dictionaries and/or movies,
call or fax or contact travel agencies or Chinese friends, and to interact
and articulate with peers.
- Follow your own
paths to solve the problems in whatever manner that they feel suits
them most.
- Keep working journal
every class and record discussion or dialogue.
- Report and elaborate
it either orally to class or share with each other electronically.
- Evaluate each other
with an Evaluation Rubric.
- Take field trips
to local Chinese travel agencies.
- The following will
be the basic scenarios around which problems are given for students
to solve.
- Justify budget
and time.
- Justify cities
and places to visit.
- Justify hotels
to stay.
- Justify what
cuisine-style restaurants they will eat at.
- Justify cultural
activities that they would like to participate while they are
in China.
- Justify Chinese
holidays that they would like to experience.
- Justify people
to visit.
- Justify cultural
norms that they will follow.
- Present final plans
and itineray for evaluation in class.
- Finalize and compile
your China Tour Pamphlet with dialogues and notes.
After
taking the class, you are expected to:
- Be proficient to
communicate with ease in Chinese with similar topics in real-life situations.
- Acquire and generate
related knowledge of Chinese culture and Chinese people.
- Learn the complexities
related to gathering information and solving problems; they will practice
strategies to negotiate and interact with native Chinese speakers in
order to handle the complexities.
- Be more motivated
for their life time learning.
